Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Daily Mass April 15, 2010
Fr. Juan Carlos Gavancho
Gospel: John 3:31-36. Jesus speaks of God the Father and the Son

Summary: The fight against sin and division is within our souls. This world does not want to accept Jesus. We must be witnesses of Christ. The Apostles preached the Gospel, even though they were told not to. Most of us are called to preach the Word where we are, with our family, neighbors, and in society. We all must be witnesses of Christ’s Resurrection.

Satan – The silent character in the drama of Easter

Easter Vigil Mass. April 3, 2010
Fr. Anthony Brankin
Gospel: Mark 16:1-7. Mary Magdalene and the Resurrection
Click for audioMP3 Audio. 8 min.

Summary: Story of an exorcist. The devil brought suffering and death into the world. Why talk about the devil on Easter? Have nothing to do with the devil: ouigi boards, fortune telling, horoscopes. In the heart of this Mass we renounce Satan. We are called to exorcise the devil from our lives and embrace Jesus. Easter means that Christ has crushed the head of the ancient serpent.

Plucking the Crucifixion out of eternity

Holy Thursday. April 1, 2010
Fr. Anthony Brankin
Gospel: John 13:1-15. The Last Supper

Summary:
The same body and blood offered the next day on the cross happens on our altars every day. Crucifixion does not remain on a hill in Jerusalem. The Mass is not just a bunch of holy words. Protestants don’t believe in the body and blood of Christ. Catholics who leave the Church lose this. The Mass is the difference in our lives between salvation and damnation.

An unexpected kind of King

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Palm Sunday. March 28, 2010
Fr. Anthony Brankin
Gospel: Matt. 26:14 – 27:66 or Matt. 27:11-54. Last Supper, arrest of Jesus
Click for audio MP3 Audio. 8 min.

Summary: Hosanna does not mean “yeah Jesus,” but “save us.” Jesus turns down the people’s offers of the tin crown of being their general, their potentate. He possessed a true kingship, way more important than an earthly kingship. Jesus will take the poor, the sick and despised whom no one accepts. They will form his court. Only this kind of ruler is worthy of the name king.
