Our Lord’s parables were not explained to everyone

Friday in the 5th Sunday of Ordinary Time
Deacon Robert Banet

I have trouble saying the luminous mysteries of the rosary.

I do, too.

The second mystery, the Cana miracle, is easy enough to relate to.

Yes,  the Blessed Mother notices that the wine is running short and tells Jesus about  it.

Yes, even before she is asked. I believe that is the way it is today, that she looks after me even before I ask.

Same here, until I remembered Luke chapter 8.

Enlighten me, o wise one.

No need to be sarcastic. Anyway, Jesus says that the parables are explained to the disciples but not to the rest.

What!  That doesn’t sound like the Jesus I know.

True.  But that’s what it says.  And then He continues: so that they may look and not see and hear but not understand.

That’s hard to take in.  It almost seems that He does not care about them.

I know.  But when I get to that third mystery, I just thank God that the Gospel was preached to me and that I have the parables explained.

What about the rest, the ones that do not have the parables explained?

Frankly, I don’t know.  I just pray for them and thank God for His mercy to me.

Good way to think about it.
