Jesus has two natures – divine and human

You Catholics!

What is it, Oscar? I thought we settled the question of Mary being the mother of God.

Well, yes but I still can’t agree with about who Jesus was.

That’s a tough question. The early Church fought many battles over that.

What do you mean?
Well, some said that Jesus was two persons: one divine and one human.

I’ll bet the Church found that to be an error.

Right. Then there were those who said he was a divine person who just took on the appearance of a human.

Oh, you mean like the archangel Raphael in the book of Tobit?

Right again. The Church found that to be heretical. Then some others said Jesus was a very holy person, a super Saint especially favored by God.

Like a St. Francis, only more so.

What did the Church finally decide?

The Church teaches that Jesus was a divine person who took on human nature.

What?

Yes. Two natures, divine and human in one person. The two natures, distinct and not mixed, not like hydrogen and oxygen making water.

Hard to get a hold of.

Yes, a mystery. There are two natures, two wills, human and divine.

I’ll have to ask my minister what he thinks about that.

That should prove interesting. Let me know how it comes out.
