The beauty nurtured in the Church is a proof of God’s existence

Fr. Anthony Brankin
Gospel: John 14:7-14 “I am in the Father and the Father in me”

(Summary of sermon) I don’t particularly like to read the news columnists, but they are the bellweather of society’s propagandists — where the enemy brings the fight. The enemy is pummeling us in the media. They talk about how the Church is waging war against nuns, or women, or Obama, the poor, etc. To go after God, they go after us. They get us to disbelieve in the Church, and therefore disbelieve in God.

EWTN to Host Visitation Sister Wed., May 9

EWTN Live will feature the President of the Second Federation of the Visitation Sisters, Sister Susan Marie, on May 9, 2012 with Father Mitch Pacwa, SJ! We believe this is the FIRST time a Visitandine will appear on the show and we look forward to the opportunity and your viewership. Read more.

The best possible defense against this may be the argument of beauty. Beauty cannot explain itself without God. I’m talking about the beauty of people’s lives. For the last two thousand years we Catholics have been doing beautiful things. We take care of the poor, the sick. We are about raising good children, and doing good things in the world. This all proves the truth and goodness of God. Continue Reading…

Third Sunday of Easter, Apr. 22, 2012
Fr. Anthony Brankin
Gospel: Luke 24:35-48 “He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures”

(Summary of sermon) Remember when Pope Benedict was elected he asked for our prayers, that he would not flee for fear of the wolves? But doesn’t the Pope have the guarantee that he will not fail? Why does he need our prayers?

All of us are scarred with original sin and prone to weakness and sin. There is no ultimate victory until we have died. The Pope is faced with the daily struggles for his own salvation.

We believe in the Resurrection, but don’t need to understand

Sunday, April 8th, 2012

Easter Sunday, Apr. 8, 2012
Rev. Msgr. Richard Saudis
Gospel: John 20:1-9 “He must rise from the dead”

(Summary of sermon) Peter, John and Mary Magdalene came looking for Jesus. Mary had a feeling of loss. None of the three understood.

We believe, but don’t need to understand. Our society is secular; it doesn’t admit to belief in God. It believes that it is only matter that matters. But God is spirit. On this Easter day, we join Peter, Mary and John as we come to look for Christ.

This Palm Sunday, we must open our hearts and minds to be changed by Jesus Christ

Fr. Elvio Baldeon
Gospel: Mark 15:1-39 The Passion of Jesus Christ

(Summary of sermon) Every year the Church invites us to go to a deep understanding of this mystery. Jesus saved our lives. Only a few people opened their hearts and minds to be changed by Jesus Christ. We have the opportunity to do the same.

We think our way is the only way to do things, and thus we judge others. It is hard for us to forgive, because we forget that we have been forgiven by God. May we follow Jesus Christ and learn from him.

Lent, life, and the true meaning of passionate love

Fr. Anthony Brankin
Gospel: John 12:20-33 “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone.”

Our Lord said, “Before Abraham came to be ‘I Am.’” The people were so outraged, that he hid himself. So we cover him and his friends up by covering up the statues in church at this time, so his enemies won’t get to him.

Today is Passion Sunday. But the word passion does not have the same meaning as our modern society has given it. It is not some animal mating need. It means suffering. The Latin, passus est, means “he suffers.” Jesus suffers because of his love for us, enough to die on the cross. The true definition of passionate love is the love parents have, who would do anything for their children.
