Gospel: John 1:35-42 “Look, there is the Lamb of God.”

Sermon summary: Years ago we were taught that the Catholic Church was the one true Church, and no other group was the true Church founded by Christ. The Church is not just a group who gathers in the Church who believe in Jesus Christ.

The Bean Queen of Georgetown Rules

The bean, or Epiphany Queen, of the Georgetown Visitation can request special things. Whichever sister finds the bean or medal in her piece of cake after supper is Queen-for-a-Year and is treated in a special way. Go to our Live + Jesus blog and read about what Sr. Mary Philomena got to wear that day.

When the Pope, or the Pope and bishops in union with him give us a teaching, it is the authority of God himself. The Church teaches us about the Bible, about how to get along. It teaches with the authority of God. Continue Reading…

Gospel: Matt. 21:33-43 “The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.”

We have just made available an audio version of what is one of this website’s most popular homilies, “Guard our thoughts and follow Christ to holiness,” given several weeks ago. This informative homily explains how we should cautiously judge TV and the internet, knowing that what we see forms our thoughts and actions.

Gospel: Luke 24:13-35 They recognized Him in the breaking of the bread.

Full homily text: On behalf of all the priests in the rectory—and with the sisters in the convent, I wish to extend to all our mothers—the joys of this Mother’s Day.

It is so beautiful to see this confluence of events—just yesterday our children received their Blessed Lord in Holy Communion for the First time—and today—Mother’s Day—they crown Jesus’ mother, Mary.

The first shepherds of children are parents, and the next are grandparents, and also brothers and sisters. In a family that acts as a good shepherd, there are no “mistakes” or “surprises.” Among parents who are good shepherds, they are happy to have their little flock. Continue Reading…

Gospel: Mark 9:38-40 Whoever is not against us is for us.
Fr. Anthony Brankin

Summary: Society today is opposed to religion. It was not always like this. In the 1930’s and 40’s, society in America looked kindly upon the Catholic Church. Not any longer. The reason is that our culture has become so much worse. They know that we are the ones that oppose contraception, abortion, and same sex unions. Recently President Obama reduced the conscience clause for health care workers from the health care law [concerning in vitro fertilization, contraception that causes abortion, and immoral sexual practices].
