Christmas genealogy twist shows Christ’s true origins

Friday, Dec. 17, 2010
Fr. Anthony Brankin
Gospel: Matt. 1: 1-17. The genealogy of Jesus Christ
(Sorry, no audio)

Summary: The genealogy shows how Jesus came from the family of Abraham, of the Royal family of David. Not all here were Jews, and some were sinners. This shows that Our Lord is the Savior of everyone.

Note that the genealogy, after explaining the lineage through all the fathers, shows that Jacob was the father of Joseph, but it does not say that Joseph was the father of Jesus, but that he was the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus. Thus, it is shown clearly that Joseph was Jesus’s foster father.
