Summary: Catholic social teaching starts and ends with the family. If a social program is harmful to the family, it is immoral. The family is the basic building block of society. Politics, the media and our culture in general tell us what to think and what”s important. As a result, in our environment, we think and talk about all that they tell us to. But their values are not our values.
Saint Francis de Sales’ “little virtues” of gentleness, kindness, humility, and cheerful optimism shape the monastic life of the Visitation Sisters. Consider a life of prayer and teaching. Washington, DC.
The first day we think of putting grandma or grandpa to death, we become secular modernists. Gay marriage becomes accepted. Marriage, however, is about families, children, and life. We cannot accept evil as just part of the landscape. The media tells us we”re in a difficult economy — but who”s responsible? What kind of society do we live in when mothers are forced to work to pay exorbitant taxes?
