Feast of St. Polycarp. Wed., Feb. 23, 2011
Gospel: Mark 9:38-40 Whoever is not against us is for us.
Fr. Anthony Brankin
Summary: Society today is opposed to religion. It was not always like this. In the 1930″s and 40″s, society in America looked kindly upon the Catholic Church. Not any longer. The reason is that our culture has become so much worse. They know that we are the ones that oppose contraception, abortion, and same sex unions. Recently President Obama reduced the conscience clause for health care workers from the health care law [concerning in vitro fertilization, contraception that causes abortion, and immoral sexual practices].
Saint Francis de Sales’ “little virtues” of gentleness, kindness, humility, and cheerful optimism shape the monastic life of the Visitation Sisters. Consider a life of prayer and teaching. Washington, DC.
When we read the newspaper, we should read it with a critical eye. We need to read it with the thought, what does this mean through the eyes of the Catholic faith?
