In the Transfiguration, the Apostles were both stunned and strengthened

Gospel: Matt. 17:1-9
The Transfiguration: This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased
MP3 Audio

Summary: The Transfiguration took place so the disciples would know who Jesus was. Jesus separated himself from them and “began to glow.” Most and Elijah were talking to Him. Peter, James and John finally understood that this Jesus who they were hanging with for three years was more than they thought. The apostles didn’t want to come home.

The apostles were stunned and strengthened. The coming crucifixion of Jesus would be hard to endure. Imagine if instead of Jesus on the cross, we would see a man strapped to an electric chair.

Today, we become the apostles. We need the transfiguration. It puts heaven and hell in perspective. If this is all true, we can’t ignore it. During Lent, we need to root out our habits of sin. Do we have a sharp tongue, or commit sins through the internet?

We need to believe in the transfiguration, change our lives, and go to confession. We must be similarly transfigured. Get your sins forgiven, give it all to God. Go to confession during this Lent. Don’t waste another minute.

Once we see Jesus in all his glory, we know that this glory can be ours as well. We know that we can be transfigured in our lives like He was transfigured before the apostles.
