Even in our day, Jews follow the same laws. In Chicago when I was growing up, they would pay a girl five cents to light their stove in the evening so as not to break the Sabbath.
Force us to work on Sundays
For us, Sunday is a day to go to Mass. But the stores are open. The owners force us poor people to work on Sundays. These businesses are controlled by the New York financiers so they can sit and relax in the Bahamas.
Sunday is now the busiest day of the week. We”re going to have to stop shopping on Sundays, and stop making the day a drudgery, and make it a quiet day instead. We need to make the day holy, and our lives holy as well.
