Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 2012
(Summary of sermon) Thanksgiving was invented by the Puritans because they outlawed the Catholic festivities of Christmas. The Protestants were the first grinch who stole Christmas.
Father asked a question in his catechism class: what are you thankful for? One student said, “for all the stuff we got.”
The stuff we get is not the most important thing. What we should really be thankful for is our body and soul, and the promise of eternal life — that we are given a chance to be saved.
Look at all the people in the hospital. Can they be thankful for having to be away from home on Thanksgiving Day? They can be thankful for the promise of eternal life.
