Deacon Robert Banet
Kimberly Hahn says contraception is a mortal sin.
Hah! What does she know! She’s a convert.
Well, the Catholic Catechism bears her out. It says every action that makes procreation impossible is “intrinsically evil.”
That’s pretty strong language. Intrinsically evil. That means that there’s no way it could be good.
Right. There’s no circumstance that could make it good.
Well then, how come we don’t hear about that from the pulpit?
That I cannot answer. But we have to follow the Church, no matter what we hear or don’t hear from the pulpit. And there’s more.
More?
Yes. We have to tell others.
What!
The Bible says if somebody goes to hell and you have not warned them, God says, If you do not warn him and he does not pay attention, “I will hold you responsible for his death.”
That’s pretty strong. Where does it say that in the Bible?
Look at Ezekiel 3, 18.
I’ll have to look that up. And where in the Catechism of the Catholic Church do I find that contraception is intrinsically evil?
Look at paragraph 2370. I’ll have to admit that I did not stress that with my children when they were growing up.
Well, I guess there’s still time.
Yes. God keeps giving us a second chance.
