The universe — what’s the point of it all?

The Presentation of the Lord, Sat., Feb. 2, 2013
Deacon Robert Banet

I was just reading where this eminent scientist said that the more he studies, the more pointless the universe seems.

Pointless?

Yes. There’s no purpose to the world. It just came about by itself.

That’s just flat out wrong.

How do you know? You’re not a scientist.

True.  But I’m a believer.  The Catechism says that the world was created for the sake of the Church.

What?

Yes. That’s what it says.  I’m part of the Church and the whole creation came about for all of us who make up the Church.

Hard to believe.

I agree. But you could look it up.  Paragraph 760.

I don’t have a Catechism of the Catholic Church.

What!  You don’t have one?  How can you grow in your faith if you don’t have one!

Where could I get one?

Well, you could go to a Catholic book store or you could go on line.

Are they expensive?

The paperback edition is about eleven dollars.

That’s sounds reasonable.

This is the Year of Faith and you should be  learning more about your faith.  The Catechism is maybe the best way to do it.

You don’t have to shout.

Well, maybe it’s worth shouting about.
