Deacon Robert Banet
You Catholics have got it all wrong.
What do you mean?
Praying to Mary. You should just pray to God.
Oh, I see what you mean. Well, let me ask you, do you ever ask others to pray for you? Your pastor, for instance?
Sure, but what’s got to do with praying to Mary. She’s dead.
Dead! Where do you get that idea?
Well, I don’t see her around anywhere, do I, heh, heh!
You don’t see Jesus either. Does that mean He’s dead?
That’s different.
How about Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. Are they dead?
Well, I don’t see them around either. I guess that means they are dead. But what’ that got to do with praying to Mary?
When the Sadducees asked Jesus about marriage and the resurrection. What did He say to them?
OK, O wise one. What did He say?
He said, Have you not read where God said to you, “I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob?” And then He continued, “He is the God of the living, not of the dead.”
Where does it say that? I don’t remember that part of it.
You could look it up. Matthew 22. So do you think that applies to the Blessed Mother?
I’m gonna have to look that up. I’ll let you know.
In the meantime, I’ll say a Hail Mary for you.
