Feast of the Dedication of the Basilicas of SS. Peter and Paul,
and St. Rose Philippine Duchesne
By Deacon Robert Banet
Did you hear about the unfortunate geologist?
No, what about him?
He was fired because he took a specimen of slate for granite!
Very funny. But you know I think there’s something there to be mined.
Oh? Go ahead, o wise one.
Well, I believe we all, me included, take things for granted.
Go on.
The matter of God’s love. We take it for granted. We need to think about it and thank Him for it and wonder what it would be like it if He did not love us.
I think you’ve got something there. And there are probably many things that we could examine and find something to meditate on.
Like sin and Hell and how God sent His Son to take away the sins of the world. How we would have ended up in Hell if Jesus had not died for us. Eternal misery.
You know, He would not have had to do that. It was His mercy that reached down.
Yes, and He would not have had to have His Son die and suffer in that terrible way.
I suppose you’re right there. Maybe the whole Creed that we say on Sunday. Maybe we should go over it, point by point.
I think you’ve got a point there Charlie. It would help to stop us from taking God for granite.
Amen.
