Deacon Robert Banet
Where’ve you been, Charlie? Haven’t seen you around for a while.
Me and Emma Lou took a little vacation.
Oh? Where?
Not far from here. Funny thing, the priest said some things that sounded weird.
What do you mean, Charlie?
He talked about Jesus like He was just another human being.
Oh?
Yes, he said that it was quite possible that
Joseph was the true father of Jesus.
That’s just not true, Charlie, and you know it.
Yeah, I know but the priest talked about recent scholarship and that theologians were beginning to talk about it.
Well, you know, that kind of talk we can do without.
He said they were talking about it in the seminary
where he went.
Just put it behind you, Charlie. We know otherwise. Remember the Angelus?
The Angelus?
You know, the prayer that begins, The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
Oh, yes, I remember: And she conceived of the Holy Ghost.5
So that shows Catholic belief. The Holy Ghost was the true father of Jesus.
Thank God for Catholic teaching.
Amen to that!
