Fourth Sunday of Lent
Deacon Robert Banet
Grandpa, should I pray to Jesus?
Why, son, what makes you ask such a question? Of course, you should pray to Jesus.
What about the Holy Trinity?
Ah, you bring up a difficult question for a ten-year old.
I’ m eleven, grandpa.
Sorry. Eleven it is. Well, to get to your question, let’s think of the mystery of the Holy Trinity. When we talk about God, we are talking about a mystery.
All right.
God is three and God is one.
That’s hard to imagine.
Yes. But it’s the way God revealed Himself. The Three Persons of the Trinity are one, they are inseparable.
Go on.
So when you pray to Jesus you are, in a sense, praying to the Trinity.
I heard in school that the Three Persons are distinct.
Yes, they are distinct but not separated from one another.
I see. Sorta.
Well, son, we are dealing with a mystery. We know something about the Trinity but do not know everything.
I will keep on praying to Jesus. And I know that Jesus is the Second Person of the Trinity.
Yes, and that the Second Person is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
Thanks, grandpa.
