Tuesday in the Second Week of Lent
Deacon Robert Banet
Let me In!
What seems to be trouble, my brother?
They won’t let me in.
Is it because you’re black?
Yes.
Well, brother, I’ve been trying to get in that church for nineteen hundred years, so I know how you feel.
Is it you, Lord?
Yes, my son.
******************************
Did that really happen, Grandpa?
Well, son, not exactly. But the TV actor Dick van Dyke had to quit his Protestant church because they would not allow a black man to become a member. So it does happen. But there’s another way that the story is true.
How is that, grandpa?
Some churches are so caught up in activities and committees and societies that they forget why Jesus founded His Church.
Go on, grandpa.
Jesus founded His Church so that people would come to Him, let Him be their friend and ask Him to come into their heart.
Why don’t people do that?
Maybe because they’ve never really been invited.
Is that something like what the Bible says about people who honor Bod with their lips but heir hearts are far from Him?
Something like that.
You know what, grandpa?
What, son?
I’m going to ask Jesus go come into my heart next Sunday.
Good idea son. But you know, you could do it right now. Just tell Him that you are sinner and ask for His mercy and to come into your heart.
Lord Jesus Christ, I come to you, a sinner. I give my life to you. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus.
