Fourth Sunday of Lent
Deacon Robert Banet
I would like to spend eternity with the people of Saint Andrew’s, and all the people gathered here. But more importantly, Jesus wants to spend eternity with you, with me. How could that be, the Son of God wanting me, and wanting you? It is true. Jesus says the way to him is narrow, and then he says few are those who find the way. We are among that blessed few. He has called each one of us by name. He warns us that many are on the road to destruction — that is the road to Hell. The way to evil is broad, and many are those who follow it.
But Jesus has given us his Church and the Sacraments to lead us to that eternal glory. I am privileged to preach that Gospel, because by the deaconate, I am blessed with that burden of telling people the Good News that Jesus loves them heartily, and this is true! God bless all of you.
The brief sermon below was given by Deacon Robert Banet, at St. Andrew’s Church in the Chicago Archdiocese, upon his retirement as a deacon. He had served the parish as a deacon for 38 years. We will continue publishing his online homilies, however.
