Fourth Week of Easter
Deacon Robert Banet
You claim to be a Witness, right?
That’s right.
And you believe in the Bible?
Of course. It’s the word of God.
Oh? How do you know? Who says it’s the word of God?
Why, the Bible itself says so.
But any book could make that claim. That would not make it so.
Hmm. That’s right.
Well, then, on whose authority do you take it to be the word of God?
There are many prophecies in the Bible and they all came true. Isn’t that enough proof?
Yes, it is some proof that that book is very good on prophecies but that is not enough to make it the word of God.
All right, then. You say you Catholics believe the Bible to be the word of God. On whose authority do you accept it?
The authority of the Church. The Church existed before the New Testament. The Church wrote the New Testament.
What?
Yes. Peter and Paul and James and Luke and the rest. They were all members of the Christian Church. The Church was founded on Peter, the Rock. He was the first Pope.
I’ll have to think about this.
Ask your pastor about it.
