33rd Monday in Ordinary Time
Deacon Robert Banet
Did you ever hear of a man called Shemei?
Can’t sat that I have. Who was he?
He threw stones and rubble at King David. And he cursed him too. The King’s guards wanted to punish him but David did not allow it. He said maybe the Lord wanted it.
Go on.
Later on, David changed his mind and told King Solomon, his son, “You shall lead him to death.”
Strange indeed.
In another case, a non-Israelite people that King Saul wanted to get ride of, came to King David and asked him to hand over seven sons of Saul so they could crucify them and hang them up to the Lord.
That’s not fair! They had nothing to do with it.
True. But King David handed them over.
Did God approve?
Well, when David sinned with the wife of Uriah, The prophet told him he had done wrong and would punish him. This time, there was no such warning.
Did God approve?
I can’t say. All I can say it that it is strange.
Indeed it is. Well, I’m glad that I don’t have to have every question answered.
I just thank God for the gift of faith that He save me.
