Second Week of Advent
Deacon Robert Banet
What do people mean when they talk about the heart of Jesus?
They mean the human nature of Jesus.
Human nature! But He was the son of God, wasn’t He?
Yes. Jesus is a Person with two natures.
How could that be?
Let’s make a comparison: when Romeo says, It is the east and Juliet is the sun.
I’m with you so far. Go on.
The word Juliet has two meanings: the person and the literal sun. So too, Jesus is one Person with two natures: human and divine.
Wow! That makes sense.
Yes, and there’s more.
Go on.
You don’t have to be Shakespeare to see more of this. Let me ask you a question: do you see this?
See what?
The word “see” has two meanings: what you perceive with your eye and what you understand with your mind.
I see. Do you suppose God had this double-meaning business in mind when He invented language?
I’m sure of it.
I think I’m getting a sharper picture of God.
“Sharper”?
You know, sharper as with a knife and sharper, meaning a clearer idea.
Charlie, you’re really catching on.
“Catching”? You mean like catching a ball?
Oh, Charlie, you’re a riot.
A “riot”?
