Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
by Deacon Robert Banet
Grandpa, what did the priest mean in his homily by the sacramental view?
Well son, he means the way of looking at things as God’s being with us by means of things we can see or touch.
I don’t understand.
Well, when you look at a flower or the sky, you can see God as the one who created them.
I see.
And then there’s another way of seeing the sacramental.
Go on. I’m listening.
We have things we call sacramentals.
Oh, like holy water and statues and rosaries?
Yes. God contacts us through sacramentals.
What about the seven sacraments?
Yes indeed, they are sacraments par excellence. They are God’s means of visiting us. They infallibly bring us in touch with God.
You mean when I go to confession I am talking to God?
Yes.
So that’s what the priest meant.
Yes. How good is the good God!
