Third Sunday in Lent
Deacon Robert Banet
Look! There goes the image of God!
Image of God? Why, that’s just Stan Jargelski!
I know, but he was made in the image of God.
What are you getting at?
The Bible says we are made in the image and likeness of God. Read the book of Genesis.
Oh, that’s just poetic talk. Just wishful dreaming.
Man is made of body, soul, and spirit.
Okay, I’ll go along with that.
Man is an image of the Holy Trinity.
Go on. Maybe you’re on to something.
God the Son is reflected in the body because the Son later on took on a human body. God the Father is seen in the soul.
Go on. I’m listening.
And God the Holy Spirit is reflected in that deepest part of being, the spirit.
But isn’t the spirit the same as the soul?
The spirit is that part of the human that is most in touch with God.
Well, that’s beginning to make some sense.
Look. Stan is coming our way.
Treat him with reverence.
