Third Sunday of Easter
Deacon Robert Banet
I see you’re got your nose in a book again. What is it this time?
It’s the CCC.
The CCC?
You know. The Catechism of the Catholic Church. Every Catholic home should have one.
Well, what is so interesting about it?
It talks about membership, you know, who belongs to the Church.
Isn’t that pretty obvious? People who are baptized. That’s who.
It isn’t as simple as that.
Oh?
You can be incorporated in the Church but still not be saved.
What!
Yes. You not only have to be incorporated in the Church but you have to persevere in charity.
Persevere in charity? What does that mean?
Jesus says, if you love me, keep my commands; that is, if you love me, persevere in charity.
Go on.
If you are in a sinful relationship, if you are clinging to a sinful appetite, if you have a sinful habit, you are not persevering in charity. You must change.
Well, I don’t know about that.
The Catechism speaks for God. That’s pretty serious, when you put it that way.
Yes. Indeed it is serious.
I think I’ll ask the pastor about that.
Good idea. Glory to God.
