Third Thursday of Lent
Deacon Robert Banet
How can that be?
How can what be, Jack?
How can it be that I was given a chance to repent and others were not?
What do you mean? Everyone can repent.
Well, maybe so. Jesus gave Peter a chance, but not Judas. God gave Adam a chance to repent but not Satan. He spared Pharaoh’s chief butler but took the life of the baker.
Well, that is something to think about.
And why was He so good to me but not to others? And why was I born to a twentieth century Catholic family and not to Stone Age pagans?
Come to think of it why did He love Jacob and hate Esau? And why did He give King David the gift of repentance but not Saul?
The Bible says God’s ways are mysterious and His ways are not our ways.
Yes, and I think the only response is to bow down before Him and say “Thy will be done.” Lord, I do not understand your ways but I bow down before you. You are the Potter and I am the clay. I worship You, I praise Your name. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
