Catholics draw people to the Church, but some Catholics drive them away

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Deacon Robert Banet

And so, Mr. Chesterton. What drew you to the Catholic Church?

First, it was to have my sins forgiven but the second reason is simply Catholics.

Catholics? I don’t understand.

I look back over the centuries and I see St. Francis of Assisi and St. Dominic and Maximilian Kolbe and thousands of others. They are outstanding drawing cards.

I see. Now that you are in the Church, what do you see as the greatest cause that keeps people away from the Church?

Again, it’s Catholics.

I beg your pardon. I thought you just said it was Catholics that drew you to the Church.  Did I miss something?

No, you heard right. I’m thinking of Catholics who are a disgrace to their faith. Public figures who promote abortion and homosexual “marriage ” and in other ways live unedifying lives.

I see.  Well, I can see that you’ve given this a lot of thought. Thank you for for sharing.

My pleasure. Give the glory to God.

Amen!

Full of God’s glory

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)

Deacon Robert Banet

I still can’t see it!

What can’t you see, Charlie?

We say in the Mass that heaven and earth are full of God’s glory. So where’s the glory?

It’s all around us, Charlie. See that maple tree over there? That is there by the power of God. It is a manifestation of God.

How do you figure that?

The whole of creation is somehow a mirror of God

Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Deacon Robert Banet

There was no model to copy from.

What do you mean?

I’m talking about the creation of the world.

So?

Can you imagine the Father saying to the Son, Let’s make a sky.

And? Continue reading The whole of creation is somehow a mirror of God
