(Notes from sermon) God proves his love when he stands by us when we need him. His love is so unexpected. We ask, God did this for us? If Christ came today, you think He would be announced by leaders and influential people. But He was born in poverty. Angels announced his coming to rough shepherds who didn’t even own the sheep they watched.
And yet, Christ will suffer and die. So He would know of our suffering. A God who suffers as much as we do. We have the consolation of eternal life.
Fr. Brankin recalls when he was growing up, when his father was able to stop by from his police beat to have Christmas dinner with the family.
