2nd Sunday in Advent, 2012
Deacon Robert Banet
If they hate Me…
I’m getting pretty discouraged.
What’s the trouble, Bill?
Looks like everybody is against us.
What do you mean?
Well, I saw this TV show last night and it showed God taking orders from the devil.
Well, it was only a TV show, that’s all.
It’s not only that. It’s a lot of television. They make fun of the Church, the Pope, priests. Do you remeber the old TV show M*A*S*H?
Yeah, the war story. What about it?
You remember the priest? The chaplain?
Yeah. Come to think of it, he was portrayed as an ineffectual zero.
That’s putting it mildly. He was shown as foolish and incompetent.
Well, Bill, you know what?
What?
Maybe you ought to be glad.
How’s that?
Didn’t Jesus say, “If the world hates Me, it will hate you.”
You’re right. I had forgotten that. I guess we should really worry if the world likes you.
World? I’ve often wondered what “world” mean.
It’s anything that does not hold Jesus Christ as King. Like television and even the government at times.
Well, I guess that means we’re doing a pretty good job of following Christ.
Let’s hope so.
